Lois Weinberger, born in 1947 in Stams, Austria, created a "cage" designed to preserve nature growing freely inside. Coming from a farming family, Weinberger integrates agriculture, botany, societal reflection, and political engagement into his work. For him, ruderal plants (from Latin "ruderis," meaning rubble) serve as raw material across various mediums: paintings, drawings, photographs, videos, sculptures, installations, gardens, and public space interventions. Describing himself as a man of the land, Weinberger began his political and poetic work in the 1970s, which laid the foundation for his current artistic research on natural and artificial spaces. His contributions since the early 1990s have significantly influenced discussions on art and nature.
