Marelle reveals how play and the inversion of values play a crucial role in Dominique Ghesquière's work. According to its size and the contours of the children's game, the elements of a hopscotch are composed here of engraved stones arranged on the ground in the grass, in such a way that their presence from afar suggests a tomb. The upper part, engraved with the word "sky," is placed vertically, which supports this hypothesis and makes the game impractical. This work is fundamental because it refers to the origins of statuary itself and to play as a symbol of the world. Dominique Ghesquière's hopscotch does not model a game; while maintaining a scale relationship, it does not truly become a toy, but rather reifies a moment of play, the ephemeral trace, which is somewhat "petrified."
