Christine DEKNUYDT

Christine Deknuydt was born in 1967 in Malo-les-Bains. She died in 2000 in Dunkirk.

A former student of the National School of Fine Arts of Dunkirk, Christine Deknuydt has established herself as an important figure in Dunkirk contemporary art.

In his paintings and drawings, animals, landscapes, but also hybrid creatures appear, accompanied by titles and legends, inscribed by the artist on different spaces on the sheet. Christine Deknuydt's drawings highlight recurring objects: the funnel, the animals, the landscapes and even the enclosure. She highlights the hermeticism of her figures, subject to a multitude of interpretations. His drawings seem to want to embrace the range of possibilities. The poetic quality of his work emanates from these polysemous and ambiguous forms, but also from the intersection made by the artist between the manipulation of materials and the texts which accompany them. These assemblages are essential elements for the artist, who calls his works “hybridizations”. These minimalist formats, hybrid sets where text intermingles with simplified forms, metamorphosing to create a stimulating whole. The artist plays with the meaning of words and images, seeking to provoke reflection and associations in the visitor.
