Pierre GUILHEM

Pierre-Guilhem was born in 1982. He lives and works in Montpellier.

Each painting by Pierre-Guilhem can be seen as a renewed attempt to describe something precise, a state in which words, shapes and colors concentrate at a point of tension. This “something precise”, before being accidentally achieved, requires a curious work process which could be compared to the composition of a song. Sometimes the music comes first, sometimes the lyrics.

The volume and drawing which constitute the rest of his work have given rise in parallel to a relatively limited repertoire of forms. Horses, slides, dinosaurs, books and a few other shapes define an initial vocabulary. Here again the elements associate with each other, disappear or reappear through experiments and routines, learned gestures and accidents.
