Thomas LANFRANCHI

Thomas Lanfranchi was born in 1964 in Marseille and lives in southern Aquitaine.

After studying at the Marseille Luminy art school, in 1991 he completed a post-diploma in the studio of Joseph Kosuth at the Düsseldorf Kunst Akademie.

Carried by this teaching and by an innate attraction to the sky, science fiction and so-called paranormal phenomena from our daily lives, he began to set up performances aimed at understanding matter and forms through simple mediums relating to psychic strength and concentration of thought.

In 1992, the performance took place “Cloud Cube”.

It will be presented in a few places in the south-west of France and in particular at the contemporary art center Parvis in Tarbes and Le Lait in Albi.

From these experiences will be born daily writings and drawings, as well as attempts at celestial constructions based on the levitation of forms, the artifacts of which will only be shown in episodes: in 1997 at the Norton Simon's Museum in Pasadena during a stay on the coast western United States and at the Biennials of Sydney in 1998, Liverpool and Ghent in 99/2001.

In 2007, he was invited by Stéphane Corréard to participate in “Art France” at the FIAC. The following year he joined the Semiose gallery in Paris, where he had his first personal exhibition.

In 2010, the Artothèque de Pessac invited him to produce the first retrospective of his celestial and graphic research.

Several residencies in France and abroad followed, i.e.

the Maison Daura in St Cirq Lapopie in the Lot, Unique Place in Nantes, Vent des Forêts in Meuse, the Pontmain art center in Mayenne, the Ergastule workshop in Nancy, Arts Numbers and Letters NY/USA, Kordon residency in Hiuumaa Estonia, Ottawa school of art in Canada, the Vaste et Vague art center in Quebec, Canada and recently with the Georges Pompidou center in Paris at the West Bund Museum in Shanghai/China, to name but a few...

He also participates in personal or group exhibitions, notably at the BNF (François Mitterand site) in Paris, at the gallery of the second Thursday in Bayonne, at the Nuits Blanche in Paris where he is invited by the Curry Vavart workshop, at the gallery “My monkey” in Nancy, at the Frac Nlle Aquitaine, but also at the gallery La Bad Reputation in Bordeaux, at the Bel Ordinaire art center in Pau or at Orleans's university Gallery of art, Ontario/Canada and the Friche Belle from May to Marseille...

In 2021, Editions Dilecta published its first monograph.

In April 2022, a first collection of these writings, A wasp in the K-Way, encounter of the second and third type in Gascony, was published by Van Loo editions followed by Fandango du Pamplemousse, les confessions du scotch in October 2023.

His works are present in private and public collections.
