Thomas SCHÜTTE
Thomas Schütte was born in 1954 in Oldenburg, Germany. He lives and works in Düsseldorf.
Unclassifiable and protean, the work of Thomas Schütte takes a restless and ironic look at the human condition by mixing techniques and genres. Architectural models, sculptures, photographs, drawings and engravings thus constitute a veritable “repertoire”, which in the artist’s words aims to “introduce a distorted question mark into the world”.
Marked by the teaching of Gerhard Richter, Schütte first designed architectural models, real “models to think about”. […] If he creates spaces, the artist is also a formidable ambassador of the figure. […] Reconciling violence and ingenuity, intimacy and theatricality, the singular universe of Thomas Schütte has established him as one of the mythical figures of contemporary German sculpture.
