La pluie barre
Cibachrome photograph, 120 x 160 cm
Tosani's La pluie barre and La pluie seule suggest within the same series two distinct forms of temporality. La pluie seule highlights a diaphanous curtain of an isolated downpour, separate from the rest of the world, where the unadorned flow seems to evoke the capture of an absolute moment. La pluie barre presents the same artificial rain intersected by a transversal punctuation mark, drawing the viewer's attention to their point of collision. In this alternation, the artist confronts typographic writing with photographic immediacy to question their value in transcribing time and space. Patrick Tosani remarks: "This rain signifies the flow of time channeled into the space of the image. It is a spatial writing scrolling like a film. This scrolling is marked by material punctuation that disrupts the flow's trajectory. It is the punctuation of time."
