Inséparables
Drawing, 34,2 ✗ 41,5 cm
Loïc Raguénès developed his own working method, a drawing style that involves patiently copying large rounded dots. Placing these dots side by side while varying their size and connections creates a pattern. This pointillist work mimics printing screens and can evoke the advertising language of the 1960s or 1970s, with the distinction that it approaches color in a monochromatic way. He executes this meticulous work with the patience of a copyist, using paint or colored pencil as in this drawing, which explores variations around an image of lovebirds—a species of small parrots whose pairs often remain bonded for life. This piece exemplifies the contrast the artist introduces between the high technical proficiency required to create such images and the simplicity of the subjects he chooses to depict, often drawn from everyday life or magazines.
