Mylayne's photographs are based on establishing a relationship between the artist and his subject—an intimate and fleeting connection built over long months of preparation. He chooses to photograph birds without telephoto lenses, thus needing to develop a trusting relationship with his subjects to approach them closely. Over time spent with the birds, he carefully crafts what he calls his "tableaux." He works like a painter, with successive approaches, selecting the image's content and structure, defining the placement of figures and touches of color. This is why the harmonious intimacy between the artist, birds, landscape, and light lies at the heart of his work. Mylayne captures and reveals the bird in its environment: sometimes invisible, deeply intertwined with its surroundings, the bird is sometimes at the center, sometimes at the edge of his photographs.
