Jef GEYS
1999

Photograph by Georges Charlier (photographer and director of Salto Printing & Lithography in Belgium) of his hand holding a nettle, selected by Geys as the motif for an edition of 60,000 copies in black and white printed by Salto and distributed as a supplement in copies of De Financieel-Economische Tijd-Tijd Cultuur on October 6, 1999 (Belgian newspaper in Dutch), 96 x 70 cm

"At Salto, I was given the task of printing an etching for the circle of friends of the provincial museum of Ostend. Given my somewhat provocative stance with the museum director, I chose as the 'image' a hand offering a nettle: beautifully printed in high resolution by Salto Printing & Lithography. An example for the world of printing but a real warning and caution for the members of the circle of friends: beware, it stings! The photo was taken by Georges Charlier" (Kempens Informatieblad, Special Edition Biënnale Venice, 2009, published in English) (Jef Geys). This text will be included in the "reasonable catalogue" being drafted by WIELS, Centre for Contemporary Art, Brussels.
