If Dominique Ghesquière's work borrows nothing from the seduction of trompe l'oeil, it still draws on the rhetoric of pretense. The works she creates take different aspects: they are objects of life, which we use on a daily basis or which make up the common landscape. Fence, stepladder, paper newspaper, brick wall, living room rug. All here supplanted by their artifacts. Artifacts not to be considered identical therefore. Let's say rather similar. Beyond the slide into the absurd, Dominique Ghesquière creates tangible images of the real world. The vagueness that she cultivates in the designation of objects points to a kind of contradiction and paradoxically a certain form of ability to activate our mixed desires for consumption. […]
