Jean-Claude RUGGIRELLO

Jean-Claude Ruggirello was born in 1959 in Tunis, Tunisia. He lives and works in Paris.

From the beginning, his video work is defined not as a cinematographic or narrative form, but as a sculptural hypothesis envisaged in an interaction with space. In this process, image and sound are considered as the possibilities of a sculpture, and his first works were exhibited in 1987 in Paris at the Galerie Eric Fabre. Much of Ruggirello's early sculptures were made from a body of materials as diverse as a breeding of crickets for U and I, exhibited at the Galerie de Paris in 1988; or sound frequency for Soft Machine (1989) exhibited at the Blois Museum; or even stuffed bees which in Pink noise (1991) reveal the imprint of a sound. The diversity of materials and forms used in the artist's practice questions the unstable territories of sculpture.
