24 wooden books of different sizes, 95 cm row

A naturalist in the 1950s and a participant in the ZERO group's abstract art movement in the 1960s, herman de vries has dedicated himself to the aesthetics of the plant world since the 1970s. He utilizes his knowledge of plants—their diversity, medicinal, nutritional, and creative properties—in his art. Through his travels, wanderings, and walks in various landscapes, he collects elements of nature to create collages, drawings, photographs, and sculptures. He aims to teach us to see nature anew, to contemplate its cycles, and to appreciate the beauty of processes we tend to neglect and take for granted. He reminds us that humans are not separate from nature but are part of and dependent on it. The plant world is not only the condition of our survival but also the source of our imagination and deep roots.
