Dried Thistles, Variable Dimensions
Hundreds of dried thistles (wild teasels) are fixed to the ceiling of the Jeanne d’Arc hall to create an inverted field. These thistles were harvested in the vicinity of Melle, where they naturally occur: in interstitial spaces, on the margins of agricultural fields, or along roadsides. They symbolize both resistance and abandonment, strength and fragility. The dimensions of the installation correspond to the ceiling space it occupies. The initial production of the work was carried out at the Saint-André Abbey Contemporary Art Center in Meymac in 2019.
