Birch twigs, variable dimensions
The concept of nature and humanity's presence within it constitutes a territory of exploration for Dominique Ghesquière. [...] The artist achieves in her evocation a purity of elements and forms that, in their assumed simplicity, suffice to evoke the memory of a landscape, its surveying, and its sensual and sensory experience. Ghesquière subtly plays with our perception and the realm of illusion. She deploys mutant and hybrid species of elements in space, generating confusion between the natural and the manufactured. Between still life and diorama, her composed landscapes juxtapose immediacy of evocation with the slowness of execution, the meticulousness of produced objects, and the precision of spatial division. Frozen in eternal autumn, this landscape finally attains the value of vanity, underscoring the vulnerability of ecosystems within which we operate and the ongoing entropy generated by human action.
