Portable garden
Bags, arable soil, spontaneous vegetation, variable dimensions
Installation réactivable, Portable Garden consists of a collection of so-called "immigrant" transport bags and soil. Directly referencing migration flows, the bags evoke the condition of populations compelled to leave their homeland. The figure of the uprooted takes on full significance here, as does the concept of integration, which will be the conclusion of the work at the end of its installation. The installation of sixty bags placed side by side in a vegetated or non-vegetated area becomes a receptacle for ruderal plants, or "weeds," naturally sown by wind and birds.
The soil is unamended, sourced from urban wastelands or nearby fields. The bags are open, surrendered to nature. The process is natural, requiring no watering or intervention. Over time, ruderal plants grow and gradually cover the entire surface of the bags. The bags are expected to disintegrate over time due to weathering and potential destruction by various birds that use the synthetic fibers of the bags for nest building. Eventually, the installation merges back into the earth upon which it rests, if applicable. The ultimate purpose of the installation is its disappearance.
